I recently heard about the murder of Carlos and Edward Martin, father and son farmers who worked tirelessly to produce the delicious Guatemalan coffee Finca Vista Hermosa.
Though we at Discovery Coffee had not carried this coffee, many of us have enjoyed it at other cafes before. The FVH crop is a delicious one. It has complex berry notes and the delicious low chocolatey tones that are, to me, the hallmark of the best Guatemalan coffees. Certainly, Carlos and Edward’s skills were reflected by the delicious coffee their farm produced.
It’s a shame for us to lose a pair of great farmers but it’s tragedy for the family, who have lost a father, a son, friends and brothers. Our hearts go out to the family who have lost their loved ones. It’s a stark reminder that the business of coffee is still a dangerous one.
